He's Out of the Running

South African runner Oscar Pistorius, 21, knows the thrill of taking home gold medals. He wants to test his skills against the world's top runners at the Beijing Olympics.

But Pistorius runs on blades called Cheetahs. Both of his legs were amputated below the knee when he was 11 months old. He won his gold medals in the Paralympics, but he has also competed against able-bodied athletes. Last week, track and field's governing body announced that Pistorius cannot compete in Beijing, because his Cheetahs give him an unfair advantage. Tests of his blades showed that he uses less energy to run at the same speed as athletes with feet and ankles. The runner will fight the ruling.
