President George W. Bush gave the annual State of the Union address last Monday. He told TV viewers and members of Congress about plans for the year ahead. The U.S. Constitution says the President must report regularly to Congress about the nation.
This was the last time that President Bush will give the speech. His term in office ends next January. He asked Americans to be patient about the war in Iraq. "The mission has been difficult," he said.
Bush asked Congress to approve a $146 billion plan to help people and companies manage their money. He also described a program to help poor children in struggling schools.
