After the terrorist attack, many TFK readers wrote to us looking for answers to tough questions. Below are our responses:
Q Who attacked us?
A Investigators believe that the attackers are part of a terrorist group known as al-Qaeda (al-kye-dah), which is led by Osama Bin Laden.
Q Why did they attack the World Trade Center and Pentagon?
A Terrorists believed that they could harm and frighten our country by striking at the buildings that represent the financial and military power of the U.S.
Q How could the terrorists fly planes into buildings, knowing that they would die and that they would kill so many people?
A Terrorists use violence and fear to get what they want. They are willing to sacrifice their own lives and those of others.
Q Why do the terrorists hate us?
A The people responsible for the attacks blame the U.S. for the suffering of their people. They disapprove of the American way of life and U.S. policies, including U.S. support of Israel.
Q Will we go to war?
A President Bush says we are at war against terrorism and that we will win this war.
Q Will our parents be drafted into military service?
A Some members of the National Guard and Reserves have been asked to report for duty. But President Bush says that there is no need to have a draft at this time.
Q How could terrorists with weapons board a plane?
A The terrorists found a way to conceal knives and box cutters and carry them onto the planes.
Q Is it safe to fly?
A Law enforcement officials are working to make airplanes and airports safer. New strict security measures will make it difficult to get even nail file on board.
