A Sudsy Sister Act

The Welch sisters from Annandale, Virginia, are all washed up—and proud of it! Ashley, 16, Alyssa, 10, Aubrey, 15, and Alana, 14, wanted to help the victims of September 11. They held four car washes and raised $10,000. They asked kids nationwide to join in and launched www.washamerica.org. Their efforts so far have raised $20,000 for the Red Cross. "Starting a car wash is something any kid can do," says Alana. Inspired by the sisters, Congress has named October 6 National Wash America Saturday.
