Simon Jackson, 19, is on a mission to save a rare bear from extinction. The white Kermode, or Spirit Bear, is found only in the forests near Jackson's home in British Columbia, Canada. There are fewer than 100 Spirit Bears left in the wild because their habitat has slowly been destroyed by logging. Jackson founded the Spirit Bear Youth Coalition to change this. Last year, the group's letter-writing campaign helped persuade lumber companies to stay out of the forests for two years. Now Jackson hopes kids will use their influence to get the Canadian government to pass a law protecting the land. "Kids have powerful voices," he says.
