Vicente Rodriguez, 53, was at a neighbor's home when a powerful earthquake struck his small town in central Mexico. "I was able to get my sister out," he said, but he was still searching for his elderly mother.
The quake hit hardest in the state of Colima, 300 miles west of the capital, Mexico City. Twenty-nine people were killed and more than 300 injured. Most people in Colima live in fragile clay houses more than 100 years old. Ten thousand people were left homeless after their homes crumbled. Mexico's president, Vicente Fox, visited the area and promised to rebuild the houses with new, stronger materials.
