Spotlight

GIDGET SCHULTZ, 14, can't bear to see kids living on the streets near her Encinitas, California, home. At age 10, she tried to volunteer at homeless shelters but was told she was too young. So she started her own charity! Gidget's Way gives teddy bears, backpacks and school supplies to homeless kids in San Diego County. Each January, Gidget also has an "unbirthday party." Instead of having a bash in her own honor, she gives the kids cake, gifts and a party.

"Running Gidget's Way is a full-time job," says the eighth grader. Sadly, a recent illness left Gidget unable to walk. But she hasn't slowed down. She hopes to expand Gidget's Way nationwide. If you would like to help, go to gidgets wayxoxo.org
