Jamie Rubin's volunteer work with AIDS and cancer patients in Fort Myers, Florida, inspired a winning idea. Jamie, 16, is researching a new treatment for candidiasis (can-dih-die-ah-sis), an infection common among those patients because their bodies have a hard time fighting off invaders. On March 11, she won top prize--a $100,000 college scholarship--at the Intel Science Talent Search, a research contest for U.S. high school seniors. Jamie will use her scholarship at Harvard University in the fall.
