TFK Q&A: Stan Lee

Who Stan Lee, 77
Claim to fame Legendary Marvel Comics editor and co-creator of Spider-Man, the Hulk and the X-Men

Q Marvel's archenemy, DC Comics, hired you to write comics starring their superheroes-including Superman, Batman and Wonder Woman. Will we see drastic changes to all those characters when the new series comes out later this year?

A Yep. I'll probably make a million enemies, because all the people who love those strips are going to hate me!

Q Your Superman doesn't have a cape. Why?

A I didn't feel he needed one. If you suddenly found out that you had superstrength and superspeed, would you run out and buy a cape?

Q What is the most challenging part of this project?

A Dreaming up the stories! The first one I did was Wonder Woman. I sent the artist, Jim Lee, an 11-page outline, which is the biggest outline I've written for a comic book.

Q You also created original characters for The 7th Portal, your new online comic book at www.stanlee.net. After 60 years, why keep doing strips?

A I enjoy what I do. I'm in puppy heaven! Why retire?
