On September 12, JOHN MCKISSICK became the first coach in football history to win 500 games. His winning career at South Carolina's Summerville High School began in 1952. McKissick, 77, has led the Summerville Green Wave for so long that he has even coached the grandsons of some of his original players! No other pro, college or high school coach has been as successful.
Over the past 52 years, McKissick has guided thousands of players to victory. A few have become professional football stars, but McKissick says many more have been successful off the field. "They are landscapers, doctors and lawyers," he says. So what is McKissick going to do now that he has won 500 games? "The next goal is number 501 on Friday," he says.
