Good grief! Now we may never get to see Charlie Brown outsmart Snoopy, win a baseball game or capture the heart of the little red-haired girl. January 3 was a sad day for 355 million people around the world who opened their newspapers to read Charles Schulz's last daily Peanuts cartoon. Schulz, 77, is fighting cancer and has decided to retire. The world's most imaginative dog, its crabbiest girl and its unluckiest kite flyer will retire along with him. For unlike some other cartoonists, Schulz will not turn his strip over to someone else. His last Sunday strip will appear February 13.
Peanuts is the most widely read comic strip in the world. Its bubble-headed gang will live on in books, videos and TV specials. You'll always be a good man, Charlie Brown!
