Spotlight: Henry Louis Gates Jr.

Nearly 100 years ago, the great black educator W.E.B. Du Bois dreamed of a history book that would show all the achievements of African and African-American people. Back then, history books barely mentioned black people! Now Harvard professor Henry Louis Gates Jr. (with Du Bois bust) has made that dream come true. With fellow professor Kwame Anthony Appiah, he put together Microsoft Encarta Africana on CD-ROM. It's a multimedia encyclopedia with sound and video clips, ancient and modern history and listings that run from Hank Aaron to Zulu kings. To check out its offerings, go to www.africana.com.
