A New Look for the Fifty

Isn't this a nifty fifty? Last week, the U.S. Department of the Treasury introduced the design for a new $50 bill. The department has changed the bill to include new colors and details. The design will help prevent criminals from printing counterfeit, or fake, money.

The new bill is the same size as the old one. But it won't include the oval around President Ulysses S. Grant's face. Touches of blue and red have been added to the background, and small yellow 50s will dot the back of the bill.

The bills will be released next fall. Treasury Secretary John Snow says the changes will pay off: "The new design is more secure than ever before." Sounds like this plan is right on the money!
