An Amazing Streak Ends

For 16 years, Cal Ripken Jr. never missed a day of work. The Baltimore Orioles' third baseman played 2,632 games in a row, easily beating Yankee Lou Gehrig's record of 2,130 games. At 38, Ripken is not having his best season; last week he graciously chose to sit out a game. "It was time," he said. Cheers from fans made it "a great celebration instead of a sad event."
