A New Kids' Network

Nothing good on TV? Too many commercials? Soon you can tune into Noggin! Last week Nickelodeon and Children's Television Workshop (producer of such shows as Sesame Street and Ghostwriter) announced they will start the first all-educational channel for kids.

Noggin, for kids between the ages of 2 and 14, will be plugged in next January. For one year, the ad-free channel will air reruns of C.T.W. and Nickelodeon shows such as Nick News and Electric Company. Then it will add new shows.

What do kids think of the new channel? "It sounds interesting--I'd switch over for the news," says Lucas Eriksen, 12, of Manchester Center, Vermont. "Parents will also like it!"

"They say you can't make educational programming that kids will watch," says Nickelodeon president Herb Scannell. "We say, Watch us try."
