Mamie, an 8,500-pound African elephant at the Knoxville Zoo in Tennessee, used to shy away from her handlers and other elephants. Then she found her hidden talent: painting. Holding a fat brush in her trunk, Mamie creates lines of color. She even taught herself to make new patterns by changing her brushstrokes. Her colorful artworks, which the zoo sells for $25 each, have earned her tons of self-confidence. "She'll stand next to the elephants that she was once terrified of," handler Debora Anderson told TFK. Now the once shy elephant is stealing the show. She's even taken up playing the harmonica.
