Coop knows hoops! On August 30, Houston Comets basketball guard Cynthia Cooper, 34, scored 25 points for the Comets' 65-51 win over the New York Liberty in the first-ever Women's National Basketball Association championship. Said Cooper, who was named MVP of the game: "This is a result of hard work and team, team, team effort."
Cooper didn't start playing basketball until she was 16, in her hometown of Los Angeles, California. She later landed a spot on the U.S. Olympic team and on European teams. Now super Cooper signs autographs as easily as she zips around the court. "Coop can shoot, rebound, pass and guard the best players," said Comets coach Van Chancellor. "I'm in awe."
