Old Man Winter's icy fingers got a tight grip on most of the nation last week. Snow, freezing rain and subzero temperatures forced schools to close in nine states. President Clinton declared half the counties in Minnesota major disaster areas.
Even hot, dry Arizona was hit with up to 18 inches of snow. "We're very thankful for the snow," said Albert Hale, leader of the state's Navajo reservation. "It's a blessing."
Try telling that to truck driver Tom Warren. He was hard at work delivering ice cream in Rochester, New York, where the wind-chill factor was -37°F. "It's amazing that people are still eating it," Warren said.
