A Hero Saves A School Bus

John Waldron, 17, knew something was very wrong. School-bus driver Michael Browning had missed two turns on their usual bus route through Knox, Indiana, last Thursday. Then the teenager noticed the driver wasn't moving. The bus sped over bumps, sending kids bouncing and flying high above their seats.

John moved to the front of the bus and took the driver's foot off the gas pedal. Then he put on the brake to stop the bus.

"The kids were scared," John said later. A video camera aboard the bus recorded the whole event. Television news shows across the country showed the videotape Thursday night.

"I'm very proud," John's father Curtis Waldron said. The driver, who had suffered a seizure, is doing just fine.
