According to a study released last week by the U.S. Department of Education, only 40% of fourth-graders can answer that question.
More than 22,000 kids in grades 4 through 12 were tested on how much history they know. The conclusion: not nearly enough. In fact, only 1 in 10 high school seniors did well on the test.
There were a few bright spots, however. Nine out of 10 seniors named the invention that has most changed American life in the past 30 years. This invention could help them learn more about history too. Answer: the computer.
