What is the Klein Foundation? What's its mission? | In her youth, Gerda Klein lost most of her family to the Holocaust.
| Gerda and Kurt Klein lived during the Holocaust (1933-45), a period of
time during World War II when German soldiers rounded up millions of
Jews and other minorities in labor camps and killed many of them.
Gerda was a prisoner in one of these "concentration camps" and had to
survive under harsh conditions, including severe hunger. Her husband Kurt
was an American soldier who rescued her when the war ended.
Through the Klein Foundation, Gerda and Kurt hope to prevent such tragedies
from happening again by teaching the world's future leaders - kids
like you - how to fight prejudice, hunger and other destructive
forces. "By learning lessons of understanding and going out to help
people in their communities, kids can address basic human needs in a
different way and make this a better world," says Beth Reisboard, executive director of the foundation. Gerda says her greatest wish is that "no child should know hunger the way I
did."
How Can I Get Involved? Visit the Klein Foundation's website to find out how you can fight
hunger and help needy people in your own community.
