Pamir Mountains
A snow leopard in Afghanistan is a rare sight. The felines live in the country's remote mountains. When they don't want to be seen, they keep very still. Their furry paws help them move quietly in the snow. Biologists use motion-sensitive cameras to identify and track the cats. According to the Wildlife Conservation Society (WCS), a population of snow leopards is thriving in Afghanistan's northeastern mountains. This snow leopard was snapped in the Wakhan Corridor in the Pamir Mountains. The WCS is monitoring the region to protect the big cats from poachers. (WILDLIFE CONSERVATION SOCIETY)
