Tierra del Fuego Tierra del Fuego, or "land of fire," is Argentina's only coastal national park. It covers an entire group of islands south of the Strait of Magellan along the southern tip of Argentina. Mostly Indians populated the region until the 1880s, when people from Argentina and Chile entered the area because of gold discoveries and the introduction of sheep farming. Since then, Argentina and Chile have shared the Terra del Fuego. (ANNE RIPPYGETTY IMAGES) |
