River Nile
At the heart of Egypt flows the longest river in the world, the Nile. Its water is precious to Egyptians, because 95% of the country is desert. Egypt's civilization depends on the River Nile. Nearly all of the country's ancient cultural and historic sites lie along the banks of the river. The Nile ends in a large delta that empties into the Mediterranean Sea.(HUGH SITTON—GETTY IMAGES)
