Helsinki is the capital of Finland. The city is located in the far south, on a peninsula in the Gulf of Finland. The surrounding natural harbors make Helsinki the country's largest seaport. More than half of Finland's imports pass through Helsinki. It is often called the "white city of the north" because many buildings in Helsinki are made of light-colored granite.
