Thingvellir Thingvellir is the site of the world's first parliament, or congress, called the Althing. In 930, while most of Europe was in conflict, Iceland's leaders decided to meet once a year to settle disputes. The Althing was a natural amphitheater. Today, it remains a symbol of Iceland's independent spirit and connection to nature. (SERGIO PITAMITZGETTY IMAGES) |
