Varanasi For over 2000 years, Varanasi has been the religious capital of India. Known as the "eternal city," it is built on the banks of the Ganges River, which Indians consider the holiest of rivers. Many of them come to the edge of the Ganges for a ritual bath, to offer blessings, sell flowers, have a swim and arrange boat trips. (MIKE COPELANDGETTY IMAGES) |
