Nara Nara, Japan's ancient capital, is home to the Todaiji Temple, which means "a large temple to the east" in Japanese. It is one of the largest wooden buildings in the world and houses one of the world's largest bronze statues of Buddha (it's 53.5 feet high)! Over the years, it has been damaged by earthquakes (its head even fell off once) and repaired. (CHRIS JACKSONGETTY IMAGES) |
