Jerash
About 30 miles north of Amman, the city of Jerash is another one of Jordan's historic treasures. One of the best preserved Roman towns outside of Italy, the ruins at Jerash are an amazing example of the Roman style of architecture. Featuring theaters, plazas, arches, and colonnaded streets, the site attracts visitors year-round and is still being excavated today. (MASSIMO PIZZOTTI—GETTY IMAGES)
