Salt Once the capital of Jordan, Salt is a beautiful town filled with houses built during the Ottoman period. Although its roots can be traced back to the Iron Age, it was one of the most important cities between the Jordan River and the desert during the nineteenth and twentieth centuries. By the early 1800s, the Ottoman Empire had heavily influenced the architecture of the city. The signature long arch window design of these houses is just one example. (ALAMY) |
