Cuzco
This city in southern Peru is the ancient capital of the Inca Empire. Situated high in the Andes Mountains, Cuzco stands 10,900 feet above sea level. Many agree the heart of this splendid city is the Plaza de Armas, which, during Incan times, was twice as large as it is now. This was the square where important religious and military ceremonies were held. Today, the plaza is filled with vendors selling their crafts to visitors from all over the world.
