The city of Novgorod has a rich cultural and architectural history. It was known as the "museum city" until it suffered great damage during World War II. Many of the damaged buildings have since been restored. The Cathederal of St. Sophia was built in 1045 and still stands today. Today, Novogorod remains home to many amazing churches and museums.
