Vladivostok Vladivostok, which means "Ruler of the East" in Russian, is Russia's main fishing and whaling port. The port joins Russia to Asia. Founded in 1860, Vladivostok is known for its steep streets that provide beautiful views of the city and ocean. In the winter, huge boats called icebreakers keep the port free of ice so that boats can pass through. (MARTIN MOOSALAMY) |
