Yakutsk
Yakutsk is a town in far northeastern Russia that is the capital of the Sakha republic (or region). Wooden houses line the streets of this small Russian town. Yakutsk was founded when Russian explorers first began to discover new places. In 1632, a fort was built on the Lena River. Ten years later, that fort moved upstream 43 miles to the site where Yakutsk is today. (ALAMY)
