Kampala
Uganda's capital, Kampala, is one of East Africa's most laid-back and friendly cities. The city center is packed full of shops, roadside traders and markets. With a relatively small population of about 1.2 million people, locals passing on the street often know each other and say the city has a small town feel. Kampala is spread over seven hills and is named for the expression impala, meaning a hill of antelopes. (MIKE D. KOCK—GETTY IMAGES)
