San Antonio History was made at the Alamo in 1836. The former church, originally named MisiÓn San Antero de Valero, was the site of the Texas Revolution’s greatest battle. It was home to Mexican revolutionaries who fought for independence in America. Though defenders of the Alamo lost the battle, the church remains a national symbol of liberty and freedom.
