What's the basic story line?

Scrub is a 12-year-old boy from Florida. His summer plans include hanging out with friends and playing basketball, so he becomes a bit depressed when his parents want him to spend time with his quirky grandmother in Washington State. She owns and operates the Intergalactic Bed & Breakfast. Although he isn't surprised to see plastic spaceships hanging on all the walls, Scrub becomes instantly suspicious of the guests. He quickly makes friends with a neighborhood girl named Amy and the two agree that the B&B is no ordinary hotel. They spend the summer trying to learn more about the strange guests, while also keeping her father, the town sheriff, from shutting the bizarre place down. One day, a surprise visitor checks in, and no one is prepared for what happens next.

Are the characters believable?

The characters are believable. The author brings them to life through colorful descriptions. The aliens' accents and the communication devices that allowed them to speak English were great touches. Scrub and Amy are your typical kids on a great summer adventure. They act just as I imagine preteens would when trying to solve such a mystery.

On a scale of 1 to 10 (10 being best), how would you rate this book?

I rate the book an 8. I really enjoyed it. I felt connected to all the characters, even the aliens. I didn't want the story to end, but was glad when Amy was able to prove true her belief that aliens do exist. The next time someone tells me they don't, I'm going to suggest they read this book. I'm a believer now.
