What’s the basic story line?
Egg is a 13-year-old boy who lives on pirate-infested Deadweather Island with his bullying brother and sister and his father, who owns an ugly-fruit plantation. On a trip to upscale Sunrise Island, Egg’s father, brother and sister die in a mysterious balloon accident. Egg goes to live with the wealthy Pembrokes and their beautiful daughter Millicent. But when someone tries to kill Egg, he flees for his life. With Millicent’s help, he goes on a mission to find a lost treasure, which could save his life.
Are the characters believable? Explain.
Yes. Egg is a teenager who is unsure about the decisions he makes yet remains humble and honest throughout the story. Millicent is a bossy young woman who is both independent and strong.
On a scale of 1 to 10 (10 being best), how would you rate this book?
I would give the book an 8. The story kept me wanting to know what would happen next and was full of action. But the ending left some questions unanswered. I hope to see them answered in the sequel. It was a great read, and I can’t wait for the next book in the series.
