Former President Bill Clinton rocked the house Wednesday night at the Democratic National Convention, in Charlotte, North Carolina. He smiled and waved as he strode toward the podium to deliver the evening’s address. In a speech that lasted nearly an hour, he forcefully made the case for why Americans should reelect the President and Vice President.
“The most important question is: what kind of country do you want to live in?” Clinton said. “If you want a country of shared opportunities and shared responsibility—a ‘we’re-all-in-this-together’ society—you should vote for Barack Obama and Joe Biden.”
Throughout Clinton’s speech, the crowd at the Time Warner Cable Arena clapped, laughed and cheered. They chanted, “Four more years! Four more years!”
When it was over, President Obama joined President Clinton onstage at the Time Warner Cable Arena. The two men hugged and shook hands. President Obama waved at the crowd. Supporters were on their feet, holding American flags in the air.
Making It Official
At the end of the night, more than 5,000 delegates from the 50 states, Washington, D.C. and five territories recorded their votes for the party’s nominee in the Democratic roll call.
Tonight, Obama and Vice President Biden are scheduled to formally accept their party’s nomination at Time Warner Cable Arena. Originally, the President’s speech was to be delivered at nearby Bank of America Stadium, a venue able to accommodate more than 70,000 people. But the threat of bad weather forced a move to the smaller site.
