The Republican National Convention crowd at the Tampa Bay Times Forum, in Tampa, Florida, erupted in cheers as Wisconsin congressman Paul Ryan took the stage Wednesday night. As the evening’s final speaker, Ryan was there to officially accept the Republican nomination for Vice President. “For my part, your nomination is an unexpected turn,” Ryan said. “It certainly came as news to my family.”

Ryan introduced his wife Janna, daughter Liza and sons Charlie and Sam, and his mom, Betty, to the crowd. He spoke about his dad, Paul Ryan, Sr., a lawyer, who died when young Paul was 16. “I like to think he’d be proud of me,” he said. “I’m sure proud of him and where I come from, Janesville, Wisconsin.”

Then, Ryan got down to business. He explained to the audience in the Forum and watching on T.V. at home why they should vote for him and Republican presidential nominee Mitt Romney on Election Day, November 6. Ryan criticized President Barack Obama and his administration for increasing the national debt and said that the U.S. has to spend less money. “Before the math and the momentum overwhelm us all, (we) are going to solve this nation's economic problems,” Ryan said.

Ryan admitted it would not be an easy task. ”These times demand the best of us—all of us—but we can do this,” Ryan said. “We can get this country working again. We can get this economy growing again.” As he concluded his speech and brought his family out onto the stage, Republicans on the convention floor danced and cheered.

Next week, TFK will be at the Democratic Convention in Charlotte, North Carolina. Be sure to check in for reports from that convention.
