What new products will be on display when you visit your favorite toy store or toy aisle this year? That's all decided at the annual American International Toy Fair, in New York City. The Toy Industry Association (TIA) organizes the big event. This year, TIA celebrated the 110th Toy Fair on February 10-13 at New York's Jacob K. Javits Convention Center. More than 1,000 toy companies showed off more than 150,000 toys and games to thousands of buyers (people employed to purchase products for a store) and media.
TIA toy trends expert Adrienne Appell chatted with TIME For Kids during Toy Fair. "We get to see what toys kind of make it or break it," Appell told TFK. "Sometimes something looks really cool, but for one reason or another it never makes it to the store."
Appell previewed thousands of new toys to determine the big patterns in the industry for 2013. "One of the biggest trends we are seeing are retro throwback toys," Appell said, like Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles, Power Rangers and Cabbage Patch Kids. "We are also seeing different apps that are becoming toys, like Bejeweled Blitz [and] Draw Something. We're seeing a lot of crossover from pop culture into the toy aisle."
TFK visited some of the toy companies at Toy Fair to check out what’s new for 2013. To see some highlights, watch the video below, and click here to view a slideshow of more toys.
