The hour-long special was Selena Gomez’s idea. She was watching Disney Channel one day and feeling sad that Wizards of Waverly Place had ended. She called Disney and they agreed to do a reunion episode.

In the special, Alex Russo (played by Selena) accidentally casts a spell that creates a good Alex and a bad Alex. The two battle it out on top of the Leaning Tower of Pisa, in Italy!

“I play two versions of myself,” Selena told TFK. “I end up having to fight myself, which was very weird. I had to remember everything I did on one side and then I had to turn around and do the same thing on the other side.”

Fans of the show won’t be too surprised by this strange turn of events. They know that wherever Alex’s character goes, trouble follows. Once again the Russo family, in Italy to visit the father’s side of the family, will have to fix Alex’s mistakes.

“It’s the same show that fans love, but it’s even better,” Jennifer Stone says. She plays Harper Finkle, Alex’s best friend. “We have stunts, special effects, plus all the heart and humor of the original show.”

Gregg Sulkin, who plays Alex’s boyfriend on the show, summed up how many fans likely feel about the reunion episode. “There’s so much to look forward to,” he says.
