X-Men: First Class

Rated PG-13

May 01, 2011

Directed by Matthew Vaughn

Starring James McAvoy, Michael Fassbender, Jennifer Lawrence, Rose Byrne

Long before Professor X (McAvoy) and Magneto (Fassbender) were foes, they were classmates and friends. X-Men: First Class dives into the epic back story of the band of mutants who came together to form Marvel's mighty X-Men . . . and of those who became their archenemies.

The story begins in 1962, during the time of the historic Cuban Missile Crisis and the Cold War. Working side by side, Charles Xavier (the telepathic leader of the future X-Men) and his friend Erik Lehnsherr (the future metal-bending villain, Magneto) seek out and help other young mutants like themselves to control their powers. Together, the team of superhuman heroes fights to prevent a nuclear war from breaking out. That is, until clashing ideas force each of them to choose a side in another brewing battle.

TFK asked McAvoy what powers he would want if he were a superhero in real life. "Invisibility, definitely," he says. "Just imagine the things you’d get to see! And healing, I think that would be cool."

Did You Know?

Unlike previous Marvel Comics films, former Marvel president and X-Men co-creator Stan Lee will not have a cameo in the movie. This is due to the movie being filmed mostly in England.
