Justin Bieber was the biggest winner at Sunday's American Music Awards, in Los Angeles, California. He took home four awards, including the night's top honor: Entertainer of the Year. At just 16 years old, he is the youngest performer ever to capture the entertainer award.

The singer, who performed his latest single "Pray" at the big show, also won Favorite Pop/Rock Male Artist, Breakthrough Artist of the Year and Favorite Pop/Rock Album for My World 2.0. Justin bested his mentor, Usher, for two of the wins.

"This means the world to me," said Justin. "I come from the smallest town in the world, of like 30,000 people. I never thought this was possible."

The Path to Fame

The young star from Stratford, Ontario, in Canada, first received attention for homemade videos that his mother posted of him on YouTube about three years ago. His mother simply wanted to share with relatives clips of Justin singing and playing guitar at home. But soon strangers began to watch. Within months, he had thousands of Internet followers.

Once Usher signed Justin to the Island Def Jam record label, the young star's fame skyrocketed. His debut album is one of the year's top sellers. The video for his hit single "Baby" was viewed more than 390 million times. His new CD, My Worlds Acoustic, came out this week at Walmart.

"To see Justin take the award was like an out-of-body experience," Usher said. "It was emotional. I don't cry that often, but I did. Hopefully it gives an indication of how hard we worked to build a career that will flourish and blossom over the years."

More Big Wins

Justin didn't completely overshadow his mentor. Usher won Favorite Soul/R&B Artist and Favorite Soul/R&B Album for Raymond v. Raymond.

The Black Eyed Peas and Taylor Swift also had big nights. The group won Favorite Pop/Rock Band. Swift, who performed her new single, "Back to December," won the award for Favorite Country Female. Last year, she won Entertainer of the Year.

"I just want to thank the fans," Swift said.
