He is only four months old, but royal baby Prince George has already been named a fashion icon and the most powerful person in London, England.

The prince, whose official name is Royal Highness Prince George of Cambridge, is the first child of Prince William and Catherine Duchess of Cambridge. His eagerly awaited birth in July was greeted with celebrations all over the world. As the first royal baby born in the age of social media, his birth was announced via the Royal Palace’s twitter and Facebook accounts as well as in the traditional way—a  proclamation placed in front of the Royal Palace.

Prince George already has a clear path to power. Under England’s monarch system, he is third in line for the English throne. The only two people ahead of him are Prince William and William’s father, Prince Charles. Prince George will surely face intense media attention throughout his life, and people are already talking about what kind of king he will be.

Previous royal babies have been raised largely by nannies and governesses, but Kate and William have pledged a more hands-on approach to parenting. As the modern face of the royal family, Kate and William are seen as young and approachable. They have already broken with some royal parenting traditions. George’s christening in October was a low-key event attended by only a small group of family and close friends, unlike the large affairs traditionally held for royal infants.

The newest royal is also sparking retail sales. The swaddling blanket he was photographed in after his birth immediately sold out in stores nationwide, and look-alike gowns of his christening outfit have also been big sellers. Fans can now even purchase a life-size “Baby George” doll.

For his worldwide appeal and the exciting promise of his power, royal baby Prince George is a nominee for TFK’s 2013 Person of the Year.
