TFK 2013 Person of the Year Nominee
At 23, Jennifer Lawrence is experiencing a level of success most actresses can only dream of. As the arrow-slinging heroine Katniss Everdeen, she’s the star of the huge blockbuster Hunger Games movie series. The second installment, Catching Fire, was released on November 22. It smashed box office records, ending an already huge year for the young actress.
In March, Lawrence received the Best Actress Oscar at the Academy Awards. She won for her performance as a young widow in the 2012 drama Silver Linings Playbook. She tripped on her way to the stage to accept the award but brushed it off and laughed at herself as the audience gave her a standing ovation.
Lawrence’s relatable personality has earned her many fans, but she doesn’t let the success go to her head. Her cast mates and friends describe her as down-to-earth, hilarious, and big-hearted. Lawrence’s Hunger Games costar Willow Shields, 13, recently raved to TFK about working with her. “She is so sweet, she’s hilarious, she’s like a big sister [to me] on set, and I always have a blast filming with her,” Willow said. “There’s no else who could play Katniss.”
Lawrence was born on August 15, 1990. She grew up in Kentucky with her parents and two older brothers, from whom she got her wicked sense of humor. At age 19, she was nominated for her first Oscar for her role in the independent film Winter’s Bone. Lawrence tries to promote healthy body images. Katniss is described as underfed in the Hunger Games book series, but Lawrence refuses to appear unhealthy on camera. “I’m never going to starve myself for a part,” she told Elle magazine last year. “I don’t want little girls to be like, ‘Oh, I want to look like Katniss, so I’m going to skip dinner.’… I was trying to get my body to look fit and strong—not thin and underfed.”
For her accomplishments as an actress and for being a role model for young people both on screen and in real life, Jennifer Lawrence is a nominee for TFK’s 2013 Person of the Year.
