What’s the basic story line?
Lindelin Rosenquist is mourning her dead pet vole, Rufus, when she receives a mysterious letter containing a key. The key opens a door to Sylver, a magical world full of super-size animals that used to be pets. All is not right in Sylver, and Lin discovers she is a Twistrose, a visitor who must help turn things around. She must find the Winter Prince in order to protect Sylver from evil. Her companions include Rufus, a wily fox named Teodor, and other woodland creatures. Her adversaries are a maniacal cat, a cackling parrot, and the mysterious Margrave.
Are the characters believable?
The characters are very believable. Lin, the only human in Sylver, is a sensitive, smart, and generous girl. She has an active imagination. The talking animals are not caricatures but seemingly real, developed characters in the story.
Who would like this book?
If you like mystery, suspense, and adventure, you will definitely enjoy this book. You don’t have to have a pet to relate to the characters. If you liked The Chronicles of Narnia or The Wizard of Oz, read The Twistrose Key.
