Disney Channel’s new movie introduces viewers to the world of competitive snowboarding
Can a washed-up champion snowboarder train his way back to the top? Can a spoiled wannabe champion become a better boarder through hard work and determination? The new Disney Channel movie Cloud 9 follows Will Cloud (Luke Benward) and Kayla Morgan (Dove Cameron) as they help each other to overcome self-doubt and reach new peaks.
“Will and Kayla make each other better,” Benward told TFK. “It’s a beautiful thing when you see two people at their lowest point overcome adversity and live what they’re meant to do.”
Showdown on the Slopes
Cloud 9 will win viewers over with its action-packed, adventure-filled plot. “Professional snowboarders taught our cast some really cool tricks,” says Ashley Tisdale, the movie’s executive producer. “The story’s really great as well.”
Young snowboarder, Kayla Morgan, is having the time of her life. Her dad owns a ski lodge. She’s the top snowboarder on her team. And she receives all the praise she could ever want. But that all changes when a sledding “accident” gets her kicked off the team and into reality. The truth is, she’s no good. It’s the secret everyone’s been hiding all along.
Retired champion snowboarder Will Cloud may be just the help Kayla needs. And helping Kayla may put Will back in the game, too. He left the snowboarding world after a terrible snowboarding accident that everyone called an “epic fail.” It happened during an attempt of Will’s original trick called “Cloud 9.” He never picked up a snowboard again. Can the two help each other overcome their troubles?
Together, Will and Kayla tackle their fears and enter the Fire and Ice Snowboarding Competition. But they soon learn that the greatest reward is something much more than a shiny trophy. Cloud 9 demonstrates the power of believing in yourself, even when you’re filled with self-doubt.
“There most likely will be a time in your life when you are the only person who believes in you,” says Cameron. “That’s all you need.”
Viewers will enjoy hitting the slopes with Kayla and Will and watching them achieve their snowboarding dreams. They’ll root for Will as he trains his way back to the top of the snowboarding world. They’ll cheer Kayla as she transforms from a pampered princess to a hard-working champion.
“I think this movie has a 360 appeal,” Cameron told TFK. “It’s romantic for the girls, and sports-filled for the guys and girls. It’s got everything I would want to see in a movie!”
