What’s the basic story line?
Legend is set in the future in a place that used to be the western coast of the United States but is now called “The Republic.” The Republic is at war with their neighbor, “The Colonies.” In this book, the two main characters are teenagers, a girl named June and a boy named Day. June is a prodigy who was born into a rich family and goes to the best schools and gets the best military training. Day is from a poor family and is the most-wanted criminal in the Republic. He is suspected of theft, assault and other crimes. Day and June cross paths when June is working undercover to find her brother’s killer and they begin to fall in love. Later in the story, June figures out that Day killed her brother. She is torn between turning him in and letting him go. She does turn him in, but still feels like there’s more to the story. The two begin to learn some terrible secrets about the Republic that no one is supposed to know, and having that information can cost them their lives!
Are the characters believable?
Yes! Day is a sweet character who comes from a poor family and is just trying to do anything he can to survive in the Republic, even if it is against the law. He is a positive thinker. June is a beautiful, smart girl who is very observant. She follows the rules, but she’s also a bit of a troublemaker. She is independent and is set on finding her brother’s killer.
