After a major disaster strikes, search-and-rescue teams race to the site. Their mission: to locate and help survivors. Often, a key team member is a pooch. Search dogs are specially trained to sniff out survivors trapped in rubble. The National Disaster Search Dog Foundation trains many of the nation's search dogs, most coming from shelters and rescue groups.
